Stylish Raised Panel Bifold Doors
When my husband and I bought our home one of the first things that we did was replace the old, worn out and unattractive bifold closet doors throughout. Our home was built in the 1970' and is in a solid middle class neighborhood. However, we felt that certain touches, such as new interior bifold doors were needed to bring our home into the 21st century.
Our search for replacement bifold closet doors took us to our local home stores, Lowe's and Home Depot. They both had quite a selection of what we thought were mid-grade doors. They offered louvered, flush and panel molded doors. They also had a wide range of different hardware sets. Most of the doors offered at Lowe's are manufactured by Reliabilt. We know that you should never purchase based on price alone, but we weren't that impressed by the selection at Lowe's although we've heard that Jeld-wen manufactures some of Lowe's Reliabilt doors.
We decided to do a search online. We also joined several home renovation forums to see what types of experiences other homeowners had with specific brands of bifold closet doors. One of the first things we found out was that if we wanted truly custom closet doors we were going to have to go online. I never knew there were so many different panel door design options as there are. One company, Interior Doors Direct, offers over thirty different styles of flat an raised panel bifold doors.
Another online manufacturer we found was CraftMaster. They also have dozens of different interior bifold door options in a wide range of panel designs and colors. Of course these higher end doors are not available in the local home stores, but at private lumber yards and smaller door stores.
So we were able to buy good quality doors and install custom closet kits into each of the closets in our home. We used a combination of wire closet shelving and laminate closet storage units which helped to more than double the amount of usable closet space in our home. We're very happy with the way our closets look on both the inside, and, with our new bifold doors, on the outside too.
