My husband and I are working with an architect designing our new home. One of the most important things to me is that we plan plenty of closet space. We've worked with several custom closet design centers getting ideas on exactly what type of closet organizer systems we'd use. One thing we have definitely decided on is that we want to use sliding closet doors throughout our home.
Today's sliding closet doors are a far cry from what they were just ten years ago. They're stylish and sleek and can serve as a major design statement throughout your home. Actually today's sliding doors can also be used as moveable walls in a home. Based on shoji screen designs these doors allow for total privacy while allowing light to shine through.
We plan to have a custom walk in closet designed in the master bedroom utilizing a sliding closet door, as well as use moveable walls that match the sliding closet door to give a clean and modern look to our home. We're excited about having such a wide range of styles and materials to choose from. The framework for these doors comes in a range from silver to maple, black to white to walnut. The glass comes in linen, frosted, mirror, milky or laminated, each allowing for a different feel and different amounts of light. The designs of the sliding doors are only limited by our own imagination.
As far as the closet design itself? We'll probably go with a California Closet type system. We're looking for a luxury walk in closet design. Something that offers hardwood shelving, drawers and built in seating. I definitely want multi-bag laundry hampers built in, as well as drawer inserts for ties, jewelry, hosiery and scarves. A definite must will be shelves with shoe rails. I like the idea of having glass door fronts for shelving which will allow us to see the clothing on the shelves.
